Management Ocular Syphilis in Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Patients

Introduction: Ocular syphilis is a rare manifestation of syphilis. manifestations vary and can occur at all stages the disease. Syphilis affect eye structures, main complaint blurred vision, accompanied by non-specific symptoms such as pain in eye, does not respond to steroids. Case: The male patient, 54 years old, presents with complaints both eyes slowly getting worse history sexual multi-partners. Visual acuity were light perception bad projection, ophthalmological examination showed cloudy lens, vitreous, cell (+) flare right optic nerve, hyperemia, left pale temporal. VDRL results: reactive> 1: 512 TPHA: 5120. patient was diagnosed late latent neurosyphilis observation from Dermatology Venereology Department received benzathine penicillin injection therapy. From Neurology neuro-syphilis consulted VCT department pre-HAART Stage IV HIV infection (WHO). After receiving therapy topical steroids, experienced improvement visual acuity. Conclusion: In patients without antiretroviral therapy, Treponema pallidum more common has ocular neurosyphilis. Treatment using steroids reduce inflammation antibiotic.
